PONS and Human Medications : Caution

 
Please consult your veterinarian before the need arises to determine dosages and appropriate human medications. If you have an emergency, call your emergency veterinary center.

 

 Aveeno Shampoo - Oatmeal -This shampoo will relieve your PON's itchy or inflamed skin if dog shampoo is not available.

 Benadryl -  This over the counter allergy medication may be used in treating allergies or itching in your PON. Read through the list of ingredients and avoid all sugar substitutes. You may need to go over the ingredient list with your family veterinarian.

Betadine Skin Cleanser -This is an antiseptic skin cleanser which can be applied directly to skin of your PON. Check the ingredients.

Dramamine - Can be very effective in reducing motion sickness in your PON, but must be used only with the approval of your family veterinarian.

 3% Hydrogen Peroxide - Helpful in inducing vomiting if needed in dogs. Check with your veterinarian for appropriate dosage.

Imodium - Helpful in to relieving diarrhea, but you need to consult your veterinarian.

 Ipecac Syrup - Often used to induce vomiting, but consult your veterinarian.

 Kaopectate -Often used to treat diarrhea, but consider pumpkin as a natural option.

Mineral Oil - Helpful to treat constipation when all else fails. Consider pumpkin.

 Mylanta -This antacid under the supervision of a vet may be used for an upset stomach.

 Pepto-Bismol - Can be used to help relieve vomiting, gas or diarrhea. Consult your vet.

 Pedialyte - For dehydrated dogs. Mix with water (50/50) and give as much as your PON will drink. Please consult your vet.
