PONS and Human Medications : Caution
Please consult your veterinarian before the need arises
to determine dosages and appropriate human medications.
If you have an emergency, call your emergency veterinary
Aveeno Shampoo - Oatmeal -This shampoo
will relieve your PON's itchy or inflamed skin if dog
shampoo is not available.
Benadryl - This over the counter
allergy medication may be used in treating allergies or
itching in your PON. Read through the list of
ingredients and avoid all sugar substitutes. You may
need to go over the ingredient list with your family
Please contact your family veterinarian for all
Betadine Skin Cleanser -This is an
antiseptic skin cleanser which can be
applied directly to skin of your PON. Check
Dramamine - Can be very effective in
reducing motion sickness in your PON, but
must be used only with the approval of your
3% Hydrogen Peroxide - Helpful
in inducing vomiting if needed in dogs.
Check with your veterinarian for appropriate
Imodium - Helpful in to relieving
diarrhea, but you need to consult your
Ipecac Syrup - Often used to
induce vomiting, but consult your
Kaopectate -Often used to treat
diarrhea, but consider pumpkin as a natural
Mineral Oil - Helpful to treat
constipation when all else fails. Consider
Mylanta -This antacid under the
supervision of a vet may be used for an
Pepto-Bismol - Can be used to
help relieve vomiting, gas or diarrhea.
Consult your vet.
Pedialyte - For dehydrated
dogs. Mix with water (50/50) and give as much as your PON will drink. Please
consult your vet.
