Homemade dry dog shampoo is convenient because you don’t need
water. if you live in a cold climate this can be a wonderful option
during winter months. Simply sprinkle this dry shampoo on your PON's
coat and massage it in, then simply brush out.
You may need to experiment with this recipe depending on your PON's
coat. Some PON fur will absorb the smaller particles in their fur
and require more brushing to get all of the fine particles out. I
would recommend using your dry shampoo outdoors or in an area of
your home that can easily be swept or vacuumed.
Dry shampoo recipe
1/2 cup ground oats
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup crushed lavender
Grind the oats, add the baking soda and crushed lavender and then
mix well. You can use a large salt shaker with bigger holes to
sprinkle your dry shampoo on your PON. The ground oats will absorb
excess oil and the baking soda will absorb odors and the crushed
lavender will repel fleas.
Dry Pet Shampoo: Option 2
1/2 Cup Cornmeal
1/4 Cup Dried Crushed Lemon Balm (or try Lemon Verbena leaf)
1/4 Cup Ground Oatmeal
This formula does not use baking soda and may be considerably better
for PONS with a denser coat. Cornmeal does a good job of absorbing
dirt and results in fur with a glossy appearance.
A few other ingredients you may want to experiment with are corn
starch powder (best for PONS with little undercoat) semolina flour,
dried crushed peppermint or dried crushed tea
